In taxonomyThermoproteus is a genus of the Thermoproteaceae.These prokaryotes arethermophilic sulphur-dependent organisms related to the genera Sulfolobus, Pyrodictium andDesulfurococcus. They are hydrogen-sulphur autotrophs and can grow at temperatures of up to 95 degrees Celsius.
