Species

Covers irregular, 1.5 microns in diameter divided by constriction, the presence of long filaments and pili, vacuoles, Gram negative wall monolayer. Substrates: tryptone, trypticase, peptone, gelatin. Metabolites CO2, butanol, acetate, propionate, phenylacetate. Stimulated growth (x 10) in S ° + H 2. No growth chimiolithoautotrophe. Optimal growth at 95-106 ° C (> 75 ° C, poor growth at 108 ° C), pH 7 and 17 g NaCl / l. Time division, 2-3 h. DNA: 56 mol% G+ C. One species isolated from marine hydrothermal sediments of the Azores, Hyperthermus butylicus .
